EMERGE Contributor Q&A ~ Allison Lutes
I’ve been reading Taproot since the first issue, and I’ve wanted to submit work for a long time but never felt like I had time. I finally decided to just go for it! When I saw the theme “emerge,” I knew I wanted to create socks that showed flowers growing.

EMERGE Contributor Q&A ~ Amanda McLemore
I always settle into how a certain season makes me feel at a particular moment. In early spring while everything in my garden begins to sprout slowly, my meals tend to be simple and cozy. A balance between winter comfort food and spring greens.

EMERGE Contributor Q&A ~ Emma Zimmerman
I was reading about farmers’ pandemic experiences and noticed that many outlets painted a picture of absolute despair. I am also intrigued by how the media romanticizes the lives of small-scale, sustainable farmers. I think both generalizations—romantics and despair—do a disservice to the complex lives of the people so crucial to our health and the health of the planet. I wanted to write a more complex account, and I wanted to focus specifically on those who feed the city I love.
