Meet the Maker: Sumsaara
The design story starts from early childhood when the maker's mother would refuse to accept store-bought gifts. She encouraged and challenged to design and hand make unusual, functional and aesthetically appealing gifts. This process eventually led to the Design program at San Jose State University. Sumsaara means the cycle of birth, life, death, birth. And Sumsaara echos this in a personal philosophy by combining functionality and aesthetics while using renewable, sustainable, and recycled products as far as possible. In short, it must be beautiful, functional, and environmentally responsible.
