In our world of “fast fashion” and ever-growing textile waste, it’s crucial to slow down our consumption and assess our long-term relationship with our clothes. This kit incorporates common mending methods with sashiko-inspired embroidery patterns. Inside the box, you'll find everything you need to give new life to your wardrobe!
Sashiko is a centuries-old Japanese embroidery technique, traditionally used to securely quilt small fabric patches onto thread-bare clothing. Translating to “little stabs,” it consists of simple running stitches in beautiful geometric patterns. It has been embraced by fashion trends around the globe in recent decades and is easily recognized by its signature color scheme of white on blue: natural cotton thread stitched on a ground of indigo-dyed hemp or linen. Mending Blues celebrates the historic craft's deep reverence for materials and offers a modern twist for eco-friendly novice crafters.
This kit contains a specially curated collection of traditional tools and materials:
assorted patches of indigo-dyed linen, cotton denims, and Japanese printed cottons (patches range from 3 to 8 inches; each kit is unique!)
2 skeins of sashiko thread in off-white and navy (30 meters each)
1 pack of sashiko needles in 3 sizes
1 sashiko leather palm thimble
1 heart-shaped 100% beeswax thread conditioner
1 white fabric pencil
4 straight pins on a mini needlebook
1 needle threader
1 illustrated instruction booklet Mending Blues: A Beginner’s Guide to Sashiko-Inspired Denim Repair
